5 - Changing Townscape

Did you know?

Woolgoolga's first police station and residence was on the corner behind where you are standing (at Panel 5) until 1994, when it was relocated to Beach St as "Marsh House".

Looking east from River St in the early 1900s: towards the police station (top right corner) shows typical simple timber houses on raised wooden supports, complete with post and rail fences, verandas and "dunnies out the back".

Looking west in 1975: the brick-built "First Sikh Temple" is visible (left of photo) as are the Sea View Hall and Sea View Hotel. To their right, the new Seaview Tavern is already under construction.

Looking west towards River St c1909: shows an early townscape of large yards and few dwellings.

Looking west towards River St in the 1940s: with the Sea View Hotel visible.
